Petit Paris brings the Jekerkwartier to life as a vibrant 1960s Paris. Expect a weekend full of music, art, theatre and socialising in a nostalgic, French atmosphere.
Paris in the Jekerkwartier
During Maastricht Year 2026, the Jekerkwartier will be transformed into a slice of 1960s Paris for one weekend. With its historic streets and creative character, the neighbourhood – also known as Maastricht’s Latin Quarter – provides the perfect backdrop. The focus will be on the colourful Maastricht character Giel ‘De Piele’ Hameleers. His story and the atmosphere of that era will inspire a programme brimming with music, theatre, art and nostalgia. In this way, a neighbourhood with a rich history will be brought back to life in a way that is both familiar and innovative.
A weekend full of encounters
Scattered throughout the neighbourhood are markets, performances and interactive activities. Streets and squares become places where residents, business owners and visitors come together. In this way, Petit Paris ties in seamlessly with the aim of the Maastricht Year: to connect people through shared stories and history. It is, therefore, more than just an event; it is an experience where the past and present come together. Whether you’re coming for the music, the atmosphere or the city’s stories, this weekend will let you experience Maastricht in a different light and create new memories together.

Petit déjeuner du Commune: the neighbourhood breakfast
Petit Paris begins just as a Parisian Saturday should: with coffee, fresh bread and neighbours round the table. Before the neighbourhood fills up with visitors, residents and business owners from the Jekerkwartier gather for the opening breakfast.
It’s the perfect time to catch up with one another before the weekend gets into full swing. Attendance is free, but we’d like to know how many people to expect. So please do register in advance.
